SCOA Membership Drive – Welcome !

In order to maintain a strong organization, we have begun a membership drive.  We have put together a list of Southern Cross owners who are not SCOA members and will reach out to them by mail.  We ask for your help too. Please share information about SCOA with other Southern Cross owners you might meet.  Thanks for your help!” Commodore Carol Bliven

We obtained a national registry list of vessels built by CE Ryder and have launched a drive to invite owners to join SCOA. The registry list only contains names and addresses. It may not reach all owners but it’s worth a try to increase membership. If you know of any owner, please invite them to join. We are a volunteer owner organization and it would be great to have more active participation. Here is what we wrote and please, if you are cruising or see a Southern Cross in a boat yard or on a mooring, extend a hearty hello and invitation.

Dear Southern Cross Owner,

The Southern Cross Owners Association (SCOA) is reaching out to owners who may not know about SCOA or those with whom we have lost contact.  A recent review of the national registry of these great vessels shows that most are still in commission. It would be wonderful if we could be better connected to share information, stories and friendships.

To help in the process and increase our value proposition, we have overhauled our web site, which streamlines the process to join and renew and brings forward more information in a more organized way which our members have found quite useful. Additionally, we are blessed with dedicated volunteers who assemble a newsletter, host a rendezvous and produce annual meetings, as well as more informal efforts to keep owners connected.  Members have found great benefit from shared learning and our experiences with updating, maintaining and sailing our beloved vessels.

We invite you to look at www.southern-cross.com and, specifically, look under the section of Joining SCOA. There you will find a sample newsletter that we produce three times a year. Other benefits of membership include access to past newsletters, plans and diagrams that you may find interesting as well a member directory to help owners contact each other. Some SCOA members have volunteered to be Ambassadors or Greeters. Ambassadors will help answer any questions and Greeters will offer assistance in a cruising area. These generous owners are listed as another benefit for members.

You may want to follow SCOA Member, circumnavigator, Donna Lange, who has just undertaken a nonstop solo circumnavigation on board a Southern Cross 28. Follow her here: http://www.donna-lange.com/2stopsolocirchome.html

We invite you to join. If you have any questions, please contact any one of us listed below. Minimally, join our open (free) forum under the new web site and again, please contact us if you have any questions.

Fair Winds & a Following Sea,

Your SCOA Volunteer Leadership

Here is a sample of one of our recent newsletters. Typcically these "newsletters" are between 25-40 pages and contain detailed articles describing SCOA & Boat History and Information, Projects, ugprades and maintenance information as well as updates from many of our members sailing and cruising stories. This is one way to learn about how your Southern Cross handles sailing conditions in many parts of the world and also arm chair travel with the many adventurous owners as they navigate rivers, cross Bay's, cross oceans and circumnavigate.

Join today to get access to the latest newsletters !  For $35 bucks you will have access to the SCOA Site and recent newsletters. The last time I was at West Marine, I spent $25 on one gallon of Rotella Oil so I think its a good value in my humble opinion !
