1978/2010 Southern Cross 28

Ocean Rose is a 1978 Southern Cross 28 ( Hull #14) that I purchased from the original owner in 2007 and completely updated over the next several years.  The interior was custom built   by the original owner, a marine services professional and excellent carpenter. Additionally, he made a slight modification to the keel, fairing the aft —trailing —end, which greatly reduced the ‘weather helm’ making the boat “self-tracking” when ‘close hauled’.  I trucked the boat from its original home in Tiverton, Rhode Island to Santa Barbara, California where I updated everything on board , added additional safety equipment such as radar and GPS, rigged it for short-handed sailing and cruised the California Coast between San Diego and San Francisco between 2007 and 2013. I  brought her  back to her original home on the East Coast in the spring of 2014 where I’ve sailed her the past two years. Regretfully, health issues have caused me to put Ocean Rose on the market.

I know that you can find a Southern Cross for less money. But after you take a look at all the upgrades and all of the love I’ve put into ‘Ocean Rose’, you won’t find a better value.

Asking : $29,500.00.

My wife and I are reluctantly putting  our 1980 Southern Cross 31 up for sale.  “Second Wind” is a wonderful boat but we simply don’t have the time to sail/cruise at this point in our lives. The boat is currently on the hard on the North Shore in MA. She is currently rigged as a sloop but we have all the cutter pieces if buyer prefers the original set up. Diesel engine is original (1980) but running strong. Overall condition is good. The boat is very seaworthy and she receives compliments everywhere we go. We have not officially listed the boat for sale yet but have started the rough listing below. Jim Boudrot
